At Leaside Sports Medicine, we’ve seen too many young athletes sidelined by preventable injuries. Studies show that 60–70% of youth athletes drop out of sports by age 13. By the time they’re 17, nearly half stop due to injury or pain.

As a parent of teenage athletes and a club volleyball coach, I’m passionate about keeping youth in sport for as long as possible.

Young athletes are specializing too early, burning out, and following workout programs that aren’t tailored to their sport, age, injury history, or biomechanics. For example, a 6-foot middle hitter in volleyball shouldn’t be doing the same workouts as a 5-foot defensive specialist, but that’s exactly what’s happening.

That’s why our team at Leaside Sports Medicine has developed the Youth Athlete Assessment: a one-of-a-kind program tailored to each sport and athlete to help prevent injuries, treat existing ones, and improve performance.

By assessing how athletes move now, we can prevent injuries later and improve performance immediately.

How the Youth Athlete Assessment Works

  • We start with a full-body biomechanical analysis and can analyze video of them playing their sport
  • Look for imbalances, weakness, or early injury signs
  • Then give your athlete 2–4 targeted exercises that will either improve performance or decrease injury risk
  • If they need treatment, we do it during the same visit

The cost for the session is $165, which is often covered if either parent has health benefits.

Top 3 Mistakes We See in Youth Sports (and How We Fix Them)

  1. Problem: Training intensity prioritized over movement quality
    • Solution: We catch poor patterns before they cost your athlete a game, a tournament, or a season.
  2. Problem: One-size-fits-all programming
    • Solution: Every athlete gets a personalized plan. No two bodies move the same.
  3. Problem: Ignoring small pains until they become big ones
    • Solution: Our sessions double as both prevention and performance checkups.

Who This Program Is For

  • Club, rep, and high school athletes
  • Youth who train multiple times a week
  • Athletes with a history of injury, even a “small” one
  • Kids who want to play longer, stronger, and safer
